What’s a web application?

A web application is software that runs in your web browser. Well known examples include GMail and Basecamp, but your company’s internal time reporting tool or the system that lets your customers track when their stuff has been shipped could also be web applications.

Why would I want a web application?

Web applications have some great advantages over traditional software

  • Nothing to install
  • Easily made accessible from anywhere
  • Short time to ‘something useful’
  • Instant and continual feature upgrades
  • Low cost of production
